An eighty year old Priest has been arrested for the crime of protesting at the so called “Catholic” university of Notre Dame in the USA. This Priest was protesting against abortion and the invitation issued to President Barack Obama , the most pro abortion President in the history of the USA (possibly the world?) to speak at Notre Dame and to recieve an Honourary Degree.
This is absolutely shocking footage and shows how low Americal has sunk. No protest will be allowed, no voice must be raised against the international child killers.
At least in Ireland we can still protest against the international forces of the Culture of Death. But for how long?
May the Pope consecrate Russia to the Immaculate heart of Mary soon and bring an end to this madness.

This is the last portrait of the Madonna and Child acomplished by Bellini. This subject was his particular favourite as can be seen in the tenderness apparent from the painting.

I think if people would like to read the Irish Times of today you would actually see some of the President’s words. President Obama sets down a challenge to Catholics – quote:
PRESIDENT BARACK Obama has urged Catholics opposed to abortion to work with him to reduce unintended pregnancies and make adoption more easily available.
Who is ready to take up this challenge and offer practical help?

Obama’s way of supposedly “reducing” unintended pregnancies involves promoting abortifacient contraception– merely substituting early term abortions for late term abortions. Either way, innocent children die.

So Fionnait, I ask again – who is ready to take up the challenge? Your comment doesn’t progress this situation – all it does is point the finger…if Catholics are as concerned about this situation as I believe they are – what are they – individually and collectively – doing to help improve the situation? Because the number of abortions worldwide is increasing rapidly which would tend to suggest that the finger-pointing method doesn’t help…..

The best way to reduce abortion is to make it a criminal offence as it is in Ireland north and south, and 25% of the worlds countries still.
Ireland has the lowest abortion rate in the world (even including those who are supposed to be giong to England if you believe UK stats) according to WHO statistics.
Ireland also has the LOWEST maternal mortality rate in the world.
HMMMMMM…………………………….
Seems a bit of a no brainer to me.
Dont butcher babies in the womb or you will go to prison. Works with most other types of heinous crime. Of course there will always be crminals who will take the risk, thats why we have the criminal law in the first place.
On the other hand, legalise abortion as in the USA and UK and hey presto millions die.
Catholics take their orders from God, not murderers like Obama. When Obama stops supporting and paying for the dismemberment of human beings in utero, then I might be interested to hear what he says.

Admin – Ireland might well have the lowest abortion rate in the world but that rate is not 0%….so I repeat my question – what are you proposing to do (other than criminalise people) to reduce that rate? What I find quite alarming in your response is the punitiveness of it – surely God is the ultimate judge here? And which of us can cast the first stone?

Hmm…I notice that you fail to mention what he was arrested for, both in the text or in the video.
So, what’s the charge?
I mean, I’m pretty sure if a bunch of people turned up to protest ANYTHING they’d be similarly guilty of trespass – and no-one’s above the law by cause or by age.

Margaret,
The Catholic Church has a well defined set of rules. Its called the Catechism.
It includes chastity, marriage, accepting Gods children, even a rule against murder which includes the unborn (fifth commandement) Follow it and there would be no abortion.
However you are positing a strange argument here. You are saying that because Catholics are against abortion we should stop abortion but not by stopping abortion, but by some other means, which you yourself cant even articulate!
I am not punitive. Criminalise abortion, all parties. Just like we do with other forms of murder.
Each person guilty of abortion who has not repented before death will stand befroe the throne of Christ the King and be judged by Him.
He has given us the rule book. Mortal sin = Hell.

Oh, you going to start burning witches and gays next and all who disagree with your beliefs? I believe that’s in the rule book too.

Comment removed as offensive to Catholics and sectarian.

Admin – see my posting of this morning on separate thread in which I give you a positive, Christian example of someone trying to help reduce the number of abortions by offering practical help not by criminalising people.
I find your logic bizarre to be frank. The abortion rate worldwide is increasing isn’t it? Which suggests to me that the protesting and trying to stop it isn’t working. So if you could please answer my question that would help – what is being done to offer practical help to women/girls already pregnant and considering abortion…..because if you criminalise abortiona s we all know it goes into the back streets – so it won’t stop. You might feel that you can then turn a blind eye to these ’sinners’ and murderers, but as Christians we cannot. Instead of babies dying you will then have women dying – so that doens’t help preserve life.
This is a genuine query – I am not a pro-abortionist (though I suspect that since you have already decided that I am ‘against’ you then I must be! Rather like you decided I was pro-euthanasia on another thread!) I am a Christian and I belive in putting my faith into action – or to put it more crudely – to put my money where my mouth is……so back to you – where is the ‘money’ being put within the Catholic community?

Margaret,
Catechism of the Catholic Church:
Seven corporal works of mercy. Look them up.
Feed the hungry
Harbour the harbourless
etc
If we, as Catholics do not do these things we will be answerable to God, not you or Obama, or any man.
Rest assured I know my responsibilities.
If you are trying to make this discussion personal then you will fail.
Social Justice is also an important Catholic value.
Like St Pius X we should seek to “renew all things in Christ”.
Having laws which allow for the dismenmberment of babies in utero is barbaric. No society can tolerate this and not speak out the truth.

Still haven’t answered the question admin so I can only deduce that you are really not taking this seriously. There is not one iota of compassion in your response as to how you would reach out to help the unfortunates who find themselves pregnant – other than to criminalise them if they sought an abortion. Hardly a Christian response.
It’s very easy to hide behind a feeble threat such as “If you are trying to make this discussion personal then you will fail.” It’s obvious that you do not know of any examples of RC help for these people – how very, very sad. But then, to be honest, I really didn’t expect you to come up with any compassionate, loving, sensible response…just more ‘thou shalt not’ – and look where that has got us.

Margaret ,
All that is “obvious” is that you are irrational.
If it pleases you so much to attack me because I am “RC” then press on. I really dont mind.
Unwittingly, I’m sure, you are merely following the “Rules for Radicals” and centuries of Anti Clerical and Anti Catholic bias. Ridicule and false sentimentality.
I do feel sorry for you and would, in all charity, suggest that you try to understand the principles of the Catholic Church before making a judgement on more than 1.7 billion people.
Read the writings and life stories of St Pius X, St Therese de Lisieux (the Little Way), The Cure of Ars and other great Catholic Saints. Their examples are always edifying and eminently practical. Its amazing how much of what they endured can be seen around us today, maybe in a worse form, but essentialy the same dilemas.
I am against abortion, always will be. I will do whatever I can to protest and prevent this crime against little babies and I doubt I can be made to feel sorry for that.

There are many Catholic organisations, both inside and outside the Church, that help pregnant mothers find an alternative to abortion and who support those suffering from the guilt and depression that results from having an abortion. We don’t need the likes of Obama to show us the way.
